AMD Powers One in Every Four Servers
January 27, 2006The Mercury Research numbers have recently been announced and it seems that AMD has been slowly nawing away at Intel’s dominance in the sector. Just a reminder though, Intel was plagued with shortages and product delays this past quarter, so AMD still has a much tougher quarter ahead of them.

AMD Hits Market Share of Over 20%
January 25, 2006For the first time, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) has surpassed 20% in the processor market share. CNET has learned
that next week Mercury Research will announce the new market share results, which may come as a surprise to many. AMD’s share of the processor market was 17.7% in the third quarter and surged up 20% to give AMD a 21.4% market share.
There are many reasons for the change. Intel’s roadmap over the duration of the past year has been bland, and AMD has been able to monetize on this. With Intel now ramping product of the Core Duo line of processors, we should see Intel grab back some of the market, or at the very least slow AMD’s rapid growth in the industry. (more…)

Mark-Eric Jones, president and chief-executive officer of Innovative Silicon Inc. commented on the importance of this deal by stating “Working with AMD shows the increasing importance of using ultra-high density embedded memory in the semiconductor industry as embedded memory occupies larger and larger proportions of the microprocessor and embedded processor die area.” (more…)
AMD vs. Intel : The Gloves Come Off
January 19, 2006
It’s amazing how much the landscape of the processor market can change in a rather short period of time — two years ago AMD was faltering as Intel was steam-rolling over it. Even with the successful introduction of numerous chips, you would be hard pressed to find many top-tier OEM’s supporting their processors — let alone finding their chips inside enterprise class workstations. How quickly the times have changed.
